To properly protect your skin and your tattoo it is important to understand the process of tattooing. Tattoo is a special ink that is injected into your deeper skin layer with the use of needles. Needles pierce the skin from 50 to 3.000 times a minute to inject the ink. This process damages the skin, especially the deeper layer where the most damage is done, which later requires proper protection and care. Because of that it’s very important to use products, that not only protect the outer skin layer, but can penetrate deeper and protect the inner skin layer.

Tattoo Care Black Rose is an ointment and not an ordinary cream, gel, or lotion. Ointments differ from the ordinary creams, gels, or lotions in that they contain more nutrients that protect the skin and less water. Because of that, the structure of the ointment is denser than the cream, and you may sometimes find it harder to apply. The difference between the ointment and the cream is also that the ointment not only protects the outer skin layer but penetrates deeper into the subcutaneous tissue (dermis-derma). There it deeply moisturizes and nourishes the skin from the inside, while the creams, gels and lotions mostly protect the outer skin layer.

Positive effects of using an ointment are that it moisturizes, protects, and nourishes deeper part of the skin. That will cause the colors of the tattoo to become more durable and vibrant, and at the same time it will protect them against fading.

For fresh tattoos

  • Helps skin recovery after tattooing
  • Relieves irritation and redness immediately after tattooing
  • Deeply moisturizes the skin, protects against dehydration, and maintains color intensity
  • Maintains a fresh look, nourishes the skin, and helps to achieve a better final result

For older/existing tattoos

  • Deeply moisturizes and nourishes the skin
  • Ink colors come to the fore again and become more intense
  • Prevents the tattoo from drying out and maintains the intensity of tattoo colors

Maintains a fresh, well-groomed look and restores shine

Always store the ointment at room temperature (up to 25 °C / 77 °F) and in a dry and dark place.

For fresh tattoos

Before applying the ointment on a fresh tattoo for the first time, gently rinse it with lukewarm water (without using soap). Dry it in the air or gently wipe it with a paper towel. With clean hands, apply a thin layer of Tattoo Care ointment. Since the structure of the ointment is thicker than the cream, try to apply it by grabbing the ointment with your finger and applying it to the tattoo by tapping (picture below). Wait a few moments for the ointment to warm up slightly to your body temperature and then lightly spread it, without excessive pulling. You can also apply the ointment just by tapping without pulling. Repeat this procedure 3 times a day until your tattoo is completely healed (estimated 2-4 weeks). One Tattoo Care ointment (35 g / 1.23 Oz) is usually enough for 1-2 weeks of use, depending on the size of the tattoo and the amount of ointment applied.

For older/existing tattoos

Apply the ointment on the tattoo and spread it well. If the tattoo is larger, we recommend that you apply the ointment on different parts and then spread it well all over the tattoo. The effect will be visible after a few minutes as the skin will be more elastic and fresh to look at. If the colors of your tattoo are not too damaged or faded, they will come to the fore again and will be more vibrant and shiny. With regular use (at least 2x / week), your tattoo will maintain a fresh and shiny look, as well as the intensity of colors and clear tattoo lines.

FAQ – frequently asked questions

The difference between Tattoo Care Classic and Tattoo Care Black Rose ointment is that Tattoo Care Classic ointment does not contain any added fragrance and has only gentle scent of its natural ingredients. Tattoo Care Black Rose ointment contains a light Aloe Vera fragrance that makes it smell fresh and divine. Both ointments offer the same effectiveness.

Yes. Tattoo Care ointments were developed by pharmacists in collaboration with professional tattoo artists. The emphasis was to develop a highly effective ointment for tattoo care that can be used from day 1. Tattoo care ointments are made from natural ingredients that deeply moisturize your skin and accelerate its regeneration, soothe and nourish it and reduce redness caused by tattooing procedure. Before applying the ointment to a fresh tattoo for the first time, gently rinse the tattoo with lukewarm water (without the use of soap). Dry it in the air or dry it gently with a paper towel. With clean hands, apply a thin layer of Tattoo Care ointment and repeat this procedure at least 3 times a day. Because the structure of an ointment is denser than cream, try applying it with blotting or patting on your tattoo (letting it warm from your body heat for a moment) and then gently spread it.

The difference between ointments and creams is in the structure and share of ingredients in them which has impact on their later use and benefits. Ointments contain more oils (80 % oils and 20 % water) and creams usually contain equal shares of both (50 % oils and 50 % water). Due to containing more water, creams are easier to spread (the ones containing the most water are also the ones that are easiest to spread) and are less greasy but are also easier to wash away and mostly protect only the outer layer of your skin. Ointments penetrate more deeply into the layer of skin called dermis (where your tattoo is) and nourish it more effectively from the inside while also creating a protection layer on outer layer of your skin, which helps it stay moisturized longer. That is why ointments are better moisturizers, work more efficiently and are in most cases better option for your tattoo than a cream.

Yes. Formulation for Tattoo Care ointments has been dermatologically tested for all skin types and can be used for sensitive skin. For extra sensitive skin we recommend you use Tattoo Care Classic as it was developed especially for that purpose.

Due to their structure and natural ingredients Tattoo Care Black Rose and Classic are highly recommended for restoring and preserving your tattoos. They will deeply moisturize your skin and help it rejuvenate faster. Your tattoo will look refreshed, shinier and the colors will become more vivid. With regular use you can ensure it stays that way for a long time. Nevertheless, if your tattoos are too damaged (discoloration), ointments will still help a bit, but do not expect your tattoo to look like new again.

All Tattoo Care brand ointments are made by Tattoo Care team in our own manufacture which is located in Slovenia in European Union. In that way we support our people and local economy and can ensure that every product meets our strict quality standards.
